Presentation
Theme: “Intensification of the Universities
Mutual Ethical and Operational Commitment”
Spain, 10 - 15 September 2001
Forum UNESCO (University and Heritage) was born in 1995,
inside the UNESCO organisation, as a joint program between the Division
of Cultural Heritage of the United Nations UNESCO and the Polytechnic
University of Valencia.
The program consists of a worldwide interuniversity ‘network
of networks’ with an informal character and horizontal
structure, in which every member is considered to have equal rights and
duties. This ‘Network’ has as main compromise, the defence
of the Cultural Heritage of humanity through the different human, technical
and scientific resources offered by all Universities and Higher University
Schools involved in preserving the historical, scientific and natural
heritage received from our ancestors.
This program was introduced and promoted on the first ‘Forum UNESCO
International Seminar’, held in Valencia in 1996. UNESCO acknowledged
this seminar as part of its 50-year anniversary celebrations.
A second seminar held in Quebec (Canada) followed the
first one, and then a third one held in Melbourne (Australia),
a fourth one held in Ifrane (Morocco) and finally a fifth
one held in Byblos (Lebanon). To be precise, five continental
seminars aiming at a wide world dissemination of the activities developed
by the increasing number of members in the network.
During the last seminar, a decision was made for celebrating a plenary
meeting that was to be held at the same place were the first seminar had
been celebrated (the Polytechnic University of Valencia). And to this
respect, we wish to make available an informative summary on the content
and development of the activities programmed for the aforementioned meeting
taking place from September 10th to September 16th during
the: ‘VI Forum UNESCO International Seminar: Plenary Meeting’.
