Forum UNESCO-University and Heritage (FUUH) is a UNESCO project for undertaking activities to protect and safeguard the cultural and natural heritage, through an informal network of higher education institutions. FUUH is under the joint responsibility of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) Spain. This internet website is not an official UNESCO site but a website created and managed by the UPV within the framework of the project FUUH.

1999<< 4th International Seminar of Forum UNESCO >> Ifrane

 
     


Thematic areas

The 4th Forum will be organized in Morocco at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane (AUI) and, partially, in Fes. One of its main goals is to reinforce the North/South dialogue. Taking into account the achievements of the preceding meetings, the themes and activities of this event are the following:

  • Synergy Academics/Practitioners: towards a cooperation between experts in preservation and academics/researchers, articulated around the following guidelines :

1. Setting up this synergy according to the priority fieldsof action to identify the different working groups amongst the universities dealing with specific topics or projects ;

2. Reinforcement of the mechanisms through meetings between the universities that have organized seminars in the different regions in order to coordinate their work at an international level

  • Heritage and technology: exhibition of various technological tools relative to heritage conservation integrating different disciplines: (environment, chemistry, physics, computer science.., etc.);
  • Heritage and information technology: A connection between the different nodes (local and national networks) will be proposed and initiated during the Forum;
  • Heritage and training: Introduction of different training programs on heritage in universities and research institutions.

Moreover, during the event, a more formal structuring of Forum UNESCO: University and Heritage will take place, and will have the following guidelines:

  • Set up a Scientific Committee of Forum UNESCO: This committee will explore the means to better run and organize the different activities of the Forum and enhance reflection within.
  • Meeting of the different branches of Forum UNESCO: These branches, representing the different regions will convene in Ifrane to coordinate and attune their efforts at an International level;
  • Set upthe International Federation of Student Associations of Heritage Conservation: After the Melbourne Forum, five associations saw the light in universities of the following countries: Spain (Valencia), Portugal (Lisbon), Morocco (Al Akhawayn, Ifrane), Columbia and Mexico. Representatives of these associations are invited to participate in a coordination meeting to encourage other universities to establish their own associations.
