The 11th Royal Anthropological Institute International Festival
of Ethnographic Film will be held in Leeds in July 2009. It will be

Louis le Prince Centre for Cinema, Photography and Television at Leeds
University, and with the cooperation of the National Media Museum.
What is the RAI Film Festival?
The RAI International Festival of Ethnographic Film is a biennial
event bringing together the global cutting edge in ethnographic
filmmaking. Drawing in international filmmakers, broadcasters, academics
and a large non-specialist audience, it is one of the leading global
gatherings that celebrates critical filmmaking and discusses the
relationships between film, visual culture and the promotion of
cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue.
What is the RAI?
The festival is organised by the Royal Anthropological Institute
of Great Britain and Ireland (RAI), the world's longest-established
scholarly association dedicated to the furtherance of anthropology
(the study of humankind) in its broadest and most inclusive sense.
The Institute is a non-profit-making registered charity and is entirely
independent. It has a Royal Patron in the person of HRH The Duke
of Gloucester KG, GCVO.
What will happen during the festival?
During the festival, more than 50 films made by anthropologists
from all over the world will be shown and will compete for various
prizes. The festival will last for three days and include numerous
parallel events, workshops and occasions to meet. These will provide
an ideal opportunity for meetings between the regional cultural
industries, universities and different local communities.
