| The Brazilian Association of Landscape Architects (ABAP) will host
the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) 46th WORLD
CONGRESS. This major world-wide congress on landscape architecture
will be held at the Hotel Sofitel of Rio de Janeiro on October 21-23,
2009. Green Infrastructure: High Performance Landscapes is the theme
that will drive the debates and presentations by representatives from
all over the world.
Besides the 8 main lectures by outstanding professionals, more
than 76 written works – submitted to and approved by the Organizing
Committee – will be presented, to provide a major exchange
of information between professionals as well as the most varied
experiences. To facilitate the access to the professionals from
all over the world, registration will be on-line on the Congress
website.
The major world-wide meeting of professionals will also include
technical visits to different parks of Rio de Janeiro, offering
a visual exuberance and a vast diversity of Brazilian species, such
as the Jardim Botânico , Floresta da Tijuca , Sítio
Burle Marx , Parque Península and Aterro do Flamengo among
others. The visits will be guided by landscape architects with expert
knowledge of every site.
Another milestone of the 46th IFLA World Congress will be, as
every year, the International Student Design Competition
, during which, a series of activities and workshops will take place.
Finally, the 46th IFLA World Congress will be the will be the
venue for the second IFLA Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe Gold Medal
award-giving. This Gold Medal awarded every four years
by the International Federation of Landscape Architects pays tribute
to a practicing landscape architect whose merit, talent and actions
are acknowledged at international level.
