| The purpose of this information meeting is to discuss the status
of ratification and implementation of the 2001 Convention on the Protection
of the Underwater Cultural Heritage and to prepare for the entry into
force of the Convention.
The meeting is opened by the Director-General and is in the presence
of Permanent Delegates and Observers to UNESCO. It is followed by
a reception at 7.00 p.m.
During an evening session entitled "Archaeology under Water
– a Young Science with Immense Potential", international
experts will give an overview of the latest developments in underwater
archaeology, the construction of underwater museums, and recent
highly significant discoveries, while underlining the importance
of ratifying the UNESCO 2001 Convention.
Venue of the Meeting: UNESCO Headquarters, Room XII, afternoon
session at 5 p.m., evening session at 7.30 p.m.
