1. Contemporary art exhibition: Homage to Ismail Al-Sheikhli
(1924-2004) (9.30 am -5.30, Room Miró 1) Free entry.
The metaphorical style of Ismail Al-Sheikhli, who studied at Baghdad's
Institute of Fine Art in 1945 and at l'École des Beaux-arts
in Paris, celebrates the eternal cycle of humankind. This homage
to one of the pioneers of modern Iraqi art is made possible thanks
to the generous contribution of H. Exc. Muhyi K. Alkateeb, Ambassador,
Permanent Delegation of Iraq to UNESCO.
2. Homage to Shaker Hassan al Said (1925-2004),
(UNESCO Headquarters, Salle des Actes)
Shaker Hassan al Said is one of the pioneers of Iraqi modern art.
In 1950 he founded, with Jawad Salim, another pillar of Iraqi modern
art, the Bagdad Group for Modern Art. This artistic movement, which
is unique in the Arab World, provided the impetus for a new theoretical
and aesthetic debate, which spread throughout the region.
3. Calligraphy exhibition of Ghani Alani, (UNESCO
Headquarters, Salle des Pas perdus)
The Master calligrapher, illuminator, and illustrator displays his
works
4. Contemporary art exhibition from the Museum of Fine
Arts of Baghdad, (UNESCO Headquarters, Miró Room
2)
In cooperation with the Minister of Culture of Iraq and the Museum
of Fine Arts in Baghdad, a selection of 25 works of art by Iraqi’s
most famous contemporary artists.
5. Contemporary art exhibition: "Late 20th Century
Iraqi Artists", (UNESCO Headquarters, Miró
Room 1)
A remarkable collection of works of art created by Iraqi artists
over the last 25 years.
6. Photo exhibition on Iraqi Cultural Heritage,
(UNESCO Headquarters, Hall Ségur)
A series of photographs of Iraqi cultural heritage inscribed on
the World Heritage List of Humanity including the cities of Achur,
Hatra and the archaeological area of Samarra.
