| On the occasion of the centenary of the first trip of Le Corbusier
to Italy, the Le Corbusier Foundation organizes its 15 Meeting in
Rome.
The conferences will allow to evoke the place that Italy had in
the artistic training of Le Corbusier and the influence that could
have had in the conception of his different projects. Throughout
1907 to 1921 Italy is the main object of his initiation trips.
He struggles to unravel the constructive principles of the Roman
civilization and he is interested in multiple aspects of the great
regional artistic currents. At the beginning of the 1920’s
he takes contact with prominent personalities from the contemporary
world of arts and culture. After 1926 and throughout the 1930’s,
Italian rationalist architects take contact with the architect.
They will maintain continued relations with him, especially in Milan,
Rome and Venice. These relations will be retaken in a regular way
after the war and Le Corbusier will return to Italy several times
:
to Bergamo in 1949 during CIAM VII;
to Milan invited by the Triennial to participate in the colloquium
"De Divina et Humana Proporzione";
to Venice for the international conference of Artists CIAM; to Torino;
to Florence where in 1963, in the Strozzi Palace, is organized the
first great Italian exhibition dedicated to the work of Le Corbusier.
At the beginning of the 1960’s, together with the art manifestations
are the professional invitations related to works of commissions
for the projects of the Olivetti factory in Rho and the Hospital
of Venice.
This 15 Meeting will take place in the premises of the Accademia
Nazionale di San Luca, of the Faculty of architecture of l'Università
degli Studi Roma Tre and the Casa dell'Architettura.
DIt will conclude with a conference in Villa Adriano and a visit
to the sites designed by Le Corbusier in 1911.
