The Uganda National Commission for UNESCO and the UNESCO Office
in Nairobi will convene a meeting in three sites in Uganda to discuss
a national mechanism for revising the Tentative List, and to start
selecting possible cultural and natural sites for future nomination
on the World Heritage List.
Participants will include national and regional authorities responsible
for the protection of Uganda’s heritage, as well as university
and independent researchers. Two regional resource persons, who
are members of ICOMOS and IUCN, will also attend the meeting to
share their knowledge on the implementation of the World Heritage
Convention and the experience of other countries with regard to
revised Tentative Lists.
Since the inscription of the World Heritage Convention of the third
Ugandan site on the World Heritage List in 2001, there has been
no overall consideration, at the national level, of any other sites
of outstanding universal value that could be nominated to the World
Heritage List.
