| Summary: |
GENERAL OBJECTIVE
To evaluate, value and project the contribution of the protected
areas from the Region to the conservation of biodiversity, environmental
services, the construction of sustainable development, the strategies
of alleviation of poverty and the processes of regional integration
between the countries of Latin America.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
• To promote the technical and scientific exchange of experiences,
information and knowledge in the management of Protected Areas of
the Region and to know the state art of the application of these
advances for their effective management and their adjacent spaces.
• To evaluate and value, from the point of view of the management
of protected areas, the state of the conservation of biodiversity
at national and regional levels taking, among other indicators,
the contribution of the ecosistemic approach to these areas and
urban planning.
• To define minimization strategies to the poverty of the
inhabitants in or around the protected areas that are not against
the processes of conservation of the natural medium and to identify
the advances of policies, instruments and incentives used for the
fulfillment of the goals of sustainable development.
• To analyze the methodologies of planning and handling of
protected areas so that they can exchange and instrumentalize management
tools with the environmental goals of the region, as well as to
promote the development of concepts applicable to the handling and
conservation based on the experience obtained by the countries.
• To propose policies that orient a repositioning of the conservation
of biodiversity in the national and regional agendas, as well as
to consider recommendations for the redirectioning of the financial,
social and environmental orientations and its mechanisms of priorization.
• To identify and to promote regional and subregional conservation
strategies, by using the mechanisms of subhemisferic integration
and new directions of policy and horizontal cooperation.
• Formulate new proposals, programs, plans, activities and
projects at regional or subregional level on the topic of protected
areas and define recommendations to be applied in the next five
years until the 6th World Congress of National Parks.
