This meeting is planned as part of the commemorations of the Bicentenary of
the Abolition of the Slave Trade by the United Kingdom to examine
ways in which museums can share information and experiences on raising
students- and public awareness regarding the history of the transatlantic
slave trade and slavery.
This meeting follows the one held in Ghana in February 2007 between
UNESCO’s Director-General and the UK Deputy Prime Minister,
John Prescott on the sharing of information relating to the history
of the slave trade and slavery.
The seminar is organized by the Museums Archives and Library Council
of the UK (MLA) in close partnership with UNESCO’s Slave Route
Project.
