The sub-regional meeting will contribute to defining the nomination
strategy and modalities for the West Tien-Shan as a natural heritage
site as well as providing relevant authorities with guidance on
the preparation of the nomination file.
More specifically, the meeting is intended to:
- enhance understanding on the part of the State Parties of the
outstanding universal value of West Tien-Shan;
- elaborate a strategy for the West Tien-Shan trans-boundary nomination
process;
- provide guidelines for the preparation of the West Tien-Shan
nomination file.
Ultimately, the meeting will contribute to accelerating the nomination
of Central Asian sites on the World Heritage List and thereby improving
its geographical balance, one of the key objectives of the Budapest
Declaration, and that of the World Heritage Committee’s Global
Strategy for a Balanced, Representative and Credible World List.
About twenty participants will attend the meeting, which is organized
by the UNESCO Office in Almaty in cooperation with the UNESCO World
Heritage Centre and with the participation of the Governments of
Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
