Summary: The next European Heritage Days will represent an opportunity to assess the jobs that take part in the knowledge, conservation, restoration and assessment of heritage.

These old or contemporary, technical or innovating jobs, whose implication to the service of heritage is still for some of them not known or unexpected, have a determining role in the mechanisms of heritage safeguard. They are in themselves an important element of our national heritage and contribute to the enrichment of the memory of our society.

Thus, the European Days of heritage should allow the public to discover these professions and relate to those that day after day carry out actions in favor of heritage.

Next to traditional construction and restoration jobs (stonemasons, master glass workers, carpenters, esculptors…) are more recent high technology jobs (computer specialists, chemists, cartographers…).

These European Heritage Days cover the heritage in charge of the Ministry of culture and communication, from archaeology and monuments to train engines to photography, from the study of know-how to the search of traces or the identification of new heritage. The wealth of documentary resources accumulated for one hundred and fifty years could also be mentioned, which today have extraordinary uses thanks to digitalization and the Internet.

This subject also provides the opportunity to insist on the jobs of the partners of the Ministry of culture and communication that also participate in the defense of heritage, like for example the police services which allow to fight against the traffic of works of art, the research laboratories to fight the pollution of materials like concrete or glass, the companies of restoration of historical monument that today ensure the excellence of the professional practices in this field, or territorial groups for the pedagogical and tourist assessment of heritage.

Finally, these European Heritage Days, by giving value to the agents, will also allow to present all the branches of training related to these fields.
