FUUH is under the joint responsibility of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), Spain. This internet website is not an official site of UNESCO but a website created and managed by the UPV within the framework of the project FUUH.

Summary: A meeting entitled ‘The role and participation of civil society in the implementation of the Convention for the Protection and the Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions: An exchange between civil society and Parties to the Convention’, will be held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on 23 June 2008 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Room II (Decision 1.ICG 5C [PDF]).

This meeting will take place the day before the extraordinary session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity Cultural Expressions, which will be held from 24 to 27 June 2008, also at UNESCO Headquarters.

It aims to enable civil society and Parties to discuss the involvement of civil society in the implementation of the Convention and the relevant modalities. The working languages are English and French.

Representatives of Parties and non-governmental organizations with activities and interests in the fields covered by the Convention wishing to participate in the meeting are asked to register online no later than 15 June 2008 by filling in the registration form on the Convention website.

The following topics will be discussed during the meeting:

1. The role of civil society in the promotion and the implementation of the Convention:

a) Functions and contributions
b) Coordinated approach

2. Civil society’s input to the work of the Organs of the Convention: options and proposals

3. The International Fund for Cultural Diversity and civil society: a contributor, a beneficiary, a service provider?
