Forum UNESCO-University and Heritage (FUUH) is an UNESCO Project for undertaking activities to protect and safeguard the cultural and natural heritage, through an informal networkof higher education institutions. FUUH is under the joint responsibility of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), Spain. This internet website is not an official site of UNESCO but a website created and managed by the UPV within the framework of the project FUUH.

Summary:

Considering the impact of the 1st and 2nd seminar and the importance of these spaces of reflection and exchange, the General Directorate of Historic Centers, dependent on the Undersecretary's office of Cultural Heritage, Ministry of Culture of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, is organizing the 3rd International Seminar on Experiences of Revitalization of Historic Centers to be held on 27 and 28 June this year.

The 1st and 2nd seminars were held in November 2003 and June 2005, with the valuable contribution of the representatives of the Governments of Barcelona, Spain, Santiago, Chile, Montevideo, Uruguay, Bogota, Colombia, Quito, Ecuador, Pachuca, Mexico, Malaga, Spain, Lima, Peru, Oeiras, Portugal, Salto, Argentina and the Universities of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Milan, Italy and Porto Alegre, Brazil, all these participations were enriching and inspiring to the activities from the public management and the academic environment.

The main objective is to continue with the organization of these meetings where representatives and assistants can share experiences on common issues in historical cities such as: transport, security, sales, use of public space, social conflicts, etc., from the implementation of Specific Plans of Revitalization that take into consideration and provide specific solutions to these situations. It is also aimed at establishing links between cities and universities that directly approach subjects related to the safeguard of Historic centers. This year, we open the debate to nonGovernmental Organizations, in order to experience how these topics are dealt with from the private sector.
