The three-day international conference devoted to the evolution
and rehabilitation of the Asian shophouse will explore the following
themes:
- The origin of the shophouse and its influence on and from other
cultures;
- Social, economic, political and administrative factors affecting
the development and conservation of shophouses in Asia;
- Case studies on the conservation of shophouses in the context
of urban renewal or urban redevelopment.
The conference, which will be attended by 24 speakers/moderators
and 70 participants, is organized by Hong Kong’s Antiquities
and Monuments Office (AMO), ICOMOS China and the UNESCO-ICCROM Asian
Academy for Heritage Management (AAHM) with the support of the Lord
Wilson Heritage Trust. |
