Forum UNESCO-University and Heritage (FUUH) is an UNESCO Project for undertaking activities to protect and safeguard the cultural and natural heritage, through an informal networkof higher education institutions. FUUH is under the joint responsibility of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), Spain. This internet website is not an official site of UNESCO but a website created and managed by the UPV within the framework of the project FUUH.

Summary: The objective of this final experts’ meeting is to finalize a guidebook for history textbook authors writing on encounters between the Arab World and Europe.

The experts have been equally selected, three from the North as well as three from the South (Austria, Egypt, Lebanon, Sweden, Tunisia and United Kingdom).

The Partners supporting this activity are: UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science in the Arab States (UNESCO Mediterranean Programme), the League of Arab States, the Islamic Education Science and Culture Organization (ISESCO), the Arab League Education Culture and Science Organization (ALECSO), the Swedish Institute in Alexandria, the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures, UNESCO Headquarters (Education Unit) and the Georg Eckert Institute for textbooks Revision.

The guidebook of circa 50 pages will be published during fall of 2009 and translated into 5 languages (Arabic, English, German, French and Spanish). It will then be disseminated to the various Ministries of Education, curricula and textbook authors. The meeting takes place at the League of Arab States.
