| Summary: |
A series of regional and sub-regional capacity-building workshops
are being organised worldwide during 2008, in response to decision
VIII/8 (paragraph 6) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
The International Academy for Nature Conservation Isle of Vilm has
agreed to carry out these workshops for the European region.
The purpose of the workshops is to strengthen national capacity
for the development, implementation, review and update of national
biodiversity strategies and action plans and the integration of
biodiversity concerns into relevant sectors, and cross-sectoral
strategies, through the exchange of experience in these areas and
training in the use of relevant tools and mechanisms. The workshops
will provide an opportunity for countries to identify ways and means
of overcoming challenges in the implementation of National Biodiversity
Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs).
The results of the workshops will also inform the ongoing review
of implementation of goals 2 and 3 of theStrategic Plan to be considered
by the ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties in May 2008.
