The European Day on heritage that will take place on September
8 and 9 and this year, will focus on wood, its numerous uses, as
fuel or as raw material.
Since time immemorial, man benefits from trees: wood provides heat
as fuel, as construction material for buildings, bridges or boats
and is used to make numerous everyday objects – for example,
furniture – since the dawn of civilization. Today, its versatility
is still surprising: who is aware that the wood is hidden under
the form of one of its chemical derivatives, in orange juice, ice
cream, pharmaceutical tablets, even in the photos of our vacations?
The NIKE Center has convinced several selected partners to join
this 14th Day on heritage: the Swiss Association of master-carpenters
and furniture manufacturers of ASMFM, the Federation of Swiss Architects
FAS, LIgnum – Swiss economy of wood, as well as the federal
Office of environment OFEV.
Together, the numerous partners of the heritage Day, as every year,
try to make these two days of September a special experience, offering
the public numerous occasions to face testimonies of the cultural
importance of wood, in multiple contexts, whether wood objects found
in archaeological excavations of the lacustrine Neolithic towns
and the age of bronze, technique of the Dendronology , wood buildings
of the alpine area or the Renaissance of wood construction that
can to be seen in Swiss architecture nowadays.
