Forum UNESCO-University and Heritage (FUUH) is an UNESCO Project for undertaking activities to protect and safeguard the cultural and natural heritage, through an informal networkof higher education institutions. FUUH is under the joint responsibility of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), Spain. This internet website is not an official site of UNESCO but a website created and managed by the UPV within the framework of the project FUUH.

Summary: The meeting gathers Afghan and international experts and representatives of the Afghan government in order to review the work carried out in 2008 and discuss the future activities to be carried out in 2009, notably for the consolidation and conservation of the Buddha niches.

The aims of this project are to improve the state of preservation of the Bamiyan site, to ensure the long term consolidation of the site, to increase the national capacity in the conservation of cultural heritage, and to create a basis for the inception of cultural tourism in Bamiyan.

Those activities are financed by the Japanese Trust Fund for the Preservation of the World Cultural Heritage.
