ABSTRACT

That of the urban landscapes certainly constitutes by now a patrimony that identifies, characterizes and valorizes the different places and the different cultural areas, setting itself as a further category of landscape, the urban one , bearer of new and different questions to the aims of its protection and maintenance, as specified by the recent European Convention of the landscape of the 2006.
But, the conservation of this patrimony, needs methodologies of analysis, and of study, specific to these aims; particularly it must be individualized and defined what the elements are in game, so not to neglect some of it, particularly important in the context of the general problem.
In fact, in the landscape or urban-environmental image, a plurality of relationships and contents tied up both to the Superficial aspects of the building subject, and to the Spatial aspects result interesting; such as the open spaces determined by the built one, characterized by the same surfaces: the two aspects of the built that are in relation with the external surfaces, for any type of finish, because the façade is 'meaning' of the architectural sign, but also 'meant' of the urban territory.
In this complex reality of the historical urban environments, it results by now fundamental, to the goals of identifying the characters, the function of the material and coloured components of the surfaces of the built one: the urban fronts, and the floorings, which result fundamental for the perception and conclusive to the aims of the quality of the environment, and of the single architectures.
It requires a particular attention to the materials, in the dimension and weaving, colour, both in the stone and tiles apparatuses, that in the other types of finish such as stucco, plasters, colourings and painted façades, and to the relative effects of transparency, texture, scabrousness or brightness, what which is requested for ability / sensibility to perceive the material, but also immaterial value, , unrepeatable, of these manufactured articles, carriers of a culture not easily reproducible.
It reports to the studies, to the inquires and to the surveys conducted for fronts of the buildings of town ownership in the Sixteenth-century one "Road New in Genoa", effected in 2001 for the G8 in Genoa, as to the surveys conducted in the time of Renaissance Medioeval and manneristical buildings, surveyed in all these characteristics, distinctive of the Genoese architecture.
To urban and urban- environmental scale they the surveys of the urban fronts of the situated suburbs on the coast in Liguria result meaningful, in the environmental continuity of forms, colours and decorative instruments of the single constitutive fronts (Camogli, Levanto, Finalmarina...) but also that, constituent a monumental episode to urban level, of the "Ripa Maris" of Genoa, urban waterfront.
But not only: in this dimension as a whole and of environmental continuity results fundamental the other important consideration about the question of the unitary of the historical city image, formed by the coexistence of two categories, tightly settled one each other, such as the monuments and the connective fabric (or housing of base). They almost always coexist, and in narrow relationship; therefore to this general reality it needs however always to make reference, when on one or more buildings we work, any is the type of building, and as partial as can be the intervention, because analogous must be the formalities of approach and the attentions, for the reciprocity of the effects that we determine to level of context if dissonant and ungrammatical interventions are effected, also in the smallest and modest building, but belonging to a remarkable historical context.
At environmental level it constitutes example of it the Suburb of San Fruttuoso di Capodimonte where the modest houses of the sailors serve as frame to the ancient medioeval Abbey of the Dorias, while the whole suburb is inserted in a rich Mediterranean vegetation of big value, doing part of the natural Park of the Mountain of Portofino.
It's important to identify the indispensable contribution that derives from the survey, effective and complete, to the different scales, in the different types of graphs, understood the filings and the photographic repertoires, to the aims of the knowledge of this patrimony, and above all of its maintenance, where it results fundamental the objective and exhaustive project of this survey, taking into account the two different types of problems and therefore of inquires: methodological and technological character.
