ABSTRACT
Nowadays challenge between contemporary architecture and historic urban landscape is one of the discussible topics in the cities with
historic background and weather it's possible to reach equilibrium in this subject has been doubtful. It shouldn't be forgotten that
modern human has his own needs and demands. This essay is seeking how can provide the activities of contemporary city in historic
context and how "current life" can be present in historic urban landscape without any detriment. In response to this, contemporary city
criteria has been researched to understanding the subject and to reach tangible results, Tehran historic city and different interventions in it
has been glanced. Reviewing the results of these experiences and the new city requirements shows that city is an alive being that needs to
continue, and it's not wise to completely eliminate renovation in historic areas of the city. Because we shouldn't obstruct the contemporary
innovation, and it's deserve to respect to the "new" which is continue of the "old", and by itself shows evaluating process. So, just
having conservative viewpoint to historical fabrics (e.g. Tehran historical city) can end up destruction and even death of that. Just as many
cases are happened in the historical city of Tehran. It's necessary to mention that in some extent, the limits of the renovative interventions
depends on the age and the value of historic fabric. The sort of renovation is acceptable that provides improving for historic fabric and do
not be in opposite of that. The historic urban landscape of Tehran requires adaptation and regeneration in order to obtain its lost
dignity, but it's obvious that only physical aspects shouldn't be concern.
