ABSTRACT

Since 1960s', in order to provide houses for the working class people, large number of social communities were built as the facilities to the industrial construction not in Shanghai.As the representative of a history period, these social communities obtained special meaning and have become the important chunk of the city. In can be called special history urban landscape for the three reasons following.
These social communities were built mainly to supply enough living spaces in short time,the quality of the building seemed to low in quality. However,as the new image of the New Republic of China, the first communities luckily get high quality of landscape including the design of public spaces and the arrangement of the plants.And some of the social communities were designed by most excellent designers. As time past, these social communities witted all the real stories and development of the New Republic of China, and also affected by most of the economic and political events. They became the indispensable part of the city ,just as the old buildings and old towns built thousand years ago.
Based on one of the social community located in the Baoshan district Shanghai city China, the paper is divides into three parts.They are : Reading on the history, Situation analysis and Strategy Study
Reading on the history,
This part is divided into two stages, in three issues. The first stage consists of two issues. The first issue is the interpretation of history around 1950s and 1960s,when the social community became popular. The second issue aimed to choose one concrete social community designed by a famous architect in the early 20th century( Sitang community which located in Baoshan District of Shanghai China) ,do detailed analysis on its emergence and its landscape characteristic and so on .The second stage (also the third issue), is the study in the history of the evolution from the 1960s till now, including the major events particularly in urban planning theory and practice that affect the changing of the social community.
Investigation on the Current Situation
Based on the investigation of Sitang community which located in Baoshan District -Shanghai -China,do comprehensive analysis in the the multiple characteristics of the environment that \ affected by factors indicated in the first part.
Strategy Study
Answering the questions of how to improve the landscape while respecting the original design and impression of the history.
Facing the changes of the modern lifestyle, propose sustainable patterns of living, and try to do certain architectural transformation for the future development .
